Chicago Pike Inn, Coldwater
The inn is a true historic home, absolutely lovely, beautifully decorated. John and Nancy are great hosts. It is our first choice when we run out of room for visitors in our own home here in town.

Favorite Local Brew

Dark Horse Brew Co. Marshall
Several breweries make do with merely a cool location, but Dark Horse's beer is so good it would be popular in a leaky tent in the middle of nowhere. They have a line of Stouts that people wait for every year, an IPA that puts most others to shame and a Belgian Triple that is complex enough to stun unsuspecting beer geeks that taste it for the first time.

Louie's Bakery, Marshall
Louie's bakery in Marshall has really good rolls. You won't be disappointed! Their rolls are all good, but my personal favorite is the custard filled. If you get there early enough and get them while they are still warm, they are even better. I also recommend their nut rolls, caramel frosted rolls, and any of their danish!

Favorite Pie

Betty's Amish Bakery
717 Hericksville Road
Betty at the Amish Country Bakery makes the most delicious baked goods. I order all of my holiday pies from the bakery. She also has wonderful homemade chocolates and candies, melt-in-your-mouth caramel corn, breads and preserves. She also sells beautiful handmade baskets from another local Amish business. I look forward to stopping by the bakery every chance I get.
Favorite Sandwich

Sportsman Club on Coldwater Lake
You cannot beat the Walleye sandwich at the Sportsman. You can find this place just south of Coldwater on Old 27 near Coldwater Lake. Make sure you try their salad bar on the weekends.

Favorite Unique Place

Capri Drive-In, Coldwater
Ranked as one of the top five Drive-In's by the New York Times, the Capri Drive-In will take you back to a time where the windows were rolled down, the radio played the previews, and the beam of light from the projection booth cut through the night. From award winning concessions food to owners who still run the projector, this is a one of a kind American experience.

Favorite Bike Tour

20 Mile-Coldwater Lake Tour
Enjoy this meandering bike trail along secondary roads south of Coldwater. Peddle past the fairgrounds and you might catch one of many area horse shows. Continue south under tree-canopied roads past farm corps and barns to the south chain of lakes.

Favorite Lake to Catch Fish

Duck Lake, Calhoun Co.
I think that Duck Lake is probably the best fishery in the southern part of the state. Not only do you have a wide variety of fish available to catch, but there are also plentiful numbers of fish and the action is awesome. Duck lake features perch, bluegill, pike, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, and walleye. Not only does it feature these particular fish but they have a tendency, because of the size of the lake, to be huge! We have caught plenty of 3lb and up largemouth and smallmouth, and we have also been fortunate enough to land pike over 30 inches long.
So check out Duck Lake down in Calhoun County the next time you get a chance. I highly recommend it. Oh, and do me a favor, only fish it and leave your waverunner at home.
